Japanese Angler’s Secrets

2014-05-04-12.16.54Slow pitch jigging really captured my imagination. Not only it’s effective as a fishing method, I was fascinated that it was well thought out in every details and everything can be explained logically.
Of course it was very difficult first. Sato Sensei’s DVD was the only source of my learning. I have been trapped in my misunderstandings. I have wasted my money on something I didn’t need. I’ve been in a fog but still it was fun learning.

It was my sheer passion to share this fishing style with the world when I started this project in February 2013.
I became an agent for Seafloor Control and started selling the jigs I love. Then so many people started asking me for other things too. I didn’t realize that Japanese products we take for granted here are so hard to reach for many parts of the world. So I started helping people purchase from Japanese shops for my 10% handling fee.

I’m a weekend angler. I’m not a pro. Or I’m not a retailer.

The fuel of this project is only my passion to share this game I love and help people have fun with it. Not to make it a big business. It’s a fun for me. I would like to keep it a fun. I make my living on other things.

Even though there are certain things I can’t do and there are some times that I can’t reply right away because I’m not a full-time retailer, I do live up to my responsibilities for those who trust me. And I really appreciate that so many people have trusted me and helped me grow this project.

Thank you.

Hello Tatos, Please can you give me a hint. I am willing to buy a
Shimano Ocea Jigger 1501HG for slow pitch jigging, as a rod I have a Palm Metal witch MTGC-633SF,What do you think about this set up.Now I am confused about the handle of the reel. I am right handed, but when I use my shore jigging reels and spinning reels I can use very well the left handed reels.Shell I go for a left handle Ocea Jigger. What is your opinion?
    Thanks

    1. April 17, 2016 at 09:55

      Hi Gerald.
A lot of anglers change to righthand reel when they start vertical jigging with overhead tackle. Just because some overhead jigging reels used to be only available for right hand. But these days, there are more reels available for both hands. So you don’t really have to change now and you still have a lot of options.
Technical wise, there’s no need to be a particular hand since you don’t cast anything.

For OJ1500 series, the normal handle is too short at 70cm. You can buy a 85cm handle arm for OJ2000 which fits OJ1500. JPY2800 + shipping and handling. Let me know if you need my help.

I am just beginning in this endeavor. Having had numerous correspondences with Totos, I was able to correct an order before it shipped from England for the best evergreen rod for my conditions here in coastal Northern California as well as the preferred lines, the correct weights of seafloor control jig variants, leader length/srength…you name it. What a help. Still sourcing spaded hook suppliers so I can make my own assist hooks, US doesnt carry them. Cant wait to put this to practice. Thank you for explaining this system. Looking fwd to more articles & videos. I also hope you may consider a trip to N California & perhaps consider doing a video here. I think it would be very well received. Can provide lodging & the boat I used to work on (65 footer) 1 hr N of San Francisco. If you can make it I know quite a few who would be very interested to adopt this technique here. Some already have. Thx again for all the help Totos.
